TCU uses single-stream recycling. Reusable materials are picked up by a contractor and taken to a processing facility for repurposing. TCU faculty, staff, and students place their plastic, metal, and (clean) paper products in easily-identifiable bins, which are partitioned to allow for both trash and recycling materials.
Since paper drink cups, Styrofoam containers, and plastic bags are not recyclable, they are placed in the waste side of the containers for landfill disposal, along with any soiled paper products such as paper towels and napkins.
The TCU community makes a united effort to avoid contaminating reusable material, which results in a high percentage of waste materials being recycled, rather than being sent to landfills.
